Installation Instructions for the Thermal Knife Retrofit Kit
Item #1: Getting Started
- Disconnect electrical power to TAB WRAPPER TORNADO
- Disconnect the shop air supply to the TAB WRAPPER TORNADO
- Disconnect the blue air lines from the elbow connectors on the air cylinder
- Remove all four (4) 5/8” x 1” bolts that attach the Auto Cut cylinder to the Auto Cut bracket
- Remove the Aluminum Backer disc from the Auto Cut shaft
- Remove the Nylon disc from the Auto Cut shaft
- By utilizing the provided 1/8” Allen wrench, remove the four (4) button head screws from the cutter head
Item #2: Thermal Knife Blade Assembly
- Install the new Thermal Knife cut off assembly utilizing the same four (4) screw holes that held the original blade in place. To do this you will need the four (4) new machine screws provided with your kit
- Install ne new Nylon Disc provided with your kit (counter bore side facing the cutter head)
- Reinstall the Aluminum Backer disc
- Extend electrical leads behind the cutter head but in front of the air cylinder so that they point downwards
- Reinstall the four (4) 5/8” x 1” bolts that attach the Auto Cut cylinder to the Auto Cut bracket
- Reconnect the blue air lines to the elbow connectors on the air cylinder
Item #2: Mount Thermal Knife Controls Box to Outside of TWT Guarding just below the Air Cylinder
- Install the 12” x 12” control box to the outside of the guarding directly below the air cylinder
Item #3: Connect Electrical Leads as described below
- The color of the leads coming from the Thermal Knife blade (black and white) will correspond with the colored leads coming from the lead out of the control box.
- Connect corresponding wires utilizing the wire connectors already installed on the wires
- Drill .500” diameter hole on side of existing TWT control Box to allow for insertion of 3 conductor wire lead
- Terminate 3 conductor wire leads, which are individually labeled, to the corresponding relays in the control box
- Zip tie all wires to guarding for safety
- Connect 110v power cord to secondary existing wall outlet for power
- Once power is provided to control box press green button on side of control box to activate the Thermal Knife
- To assure proper installation – press cut button on pendent or remote and a yellow/orange light under the green button will illuminate. The light will stay illuminated for the duration of the time set on the timer relay (approximately 5 seconds)
The correct voltage utilization of the Thermal Knife controls is designed to run on a secondary power source generating 120Volts of electricity. We reduce this power through a Transformer rated at 50/60 HERTZ. 50 HERTZ generates approximately 10 amps.
The placement of the Thermal Knife is critical to the cutting operation. In most cases the product being wrapped in lower than the air cylinder and cutting head. With this said, the blade should be positioned in the 4:00 to 10:00 position. In the video attached from our machine you will see it in the 3:00 to 9:00 position. We need to readjust our Thermal Knife to be more like the suggested position, but it is still cutting properly where it is set.
